The Hobbit Response 1

You always need confidence to do your best. In The Hobbit Bilbo is going to need to get confidence to do what his new friends need him to do. He doesn’t always want to be going on the adventure, and he also second guessing himself about being able to steal the gold. This could spell doom for the adventure because if he doesn’t have the confidence he will try to be too careful and probably mess up. He seems like he wants to be back in his comfortable hobbit hole and not out on this adventure to far away places. One reason he wants to be back home is the troop doesn’t have a lot of food and hobbits love to eat. (4) They love to eat cake. They might even eat 2 or 3 or even more each day. No wonder they tend to be fat in the stomach. (4) Another reason he wants to be back home is that hobbits don’t like to travel at all, but Bilbo is many miles away from his home in a strange, new world. (8) Tolkien uses this conflict to make you want to read more so you see if Bilbo has the courage to steal the gold. I wonder if Bilbo will have the courage to steal the gold because I don’t think I would.
MI love how you realize that all that cake will make them 'fat in the stomach!' HA! I think if you had the courage to go on the adventure, you would summon the courage you will need as things get sticky! So you don't address what kind of conflict this is - what do you think? ~Mrs. Best
